FAQS:
Do you buy books?

No. We do not pay cash for books.

Where do you get all your books?
We get our used books from our wonderful customers through trade-ins. Our new discount books come from wholesale vendors who sell exclusively to the industry.

I have a book from the early 1700's, can you tell me what it is worth?
No. We are not a rare book dealer. Unfortunately, the yellow pages list us under the heading of Book Dealers - Used and Rare. We deal in new and used best sellers, popular fiction and non-fiction. - books for recreational and pleasure reading. However, you may find some collectible books in our shop, but they will be reasonably priced.

I lost my little slip of paper that had my book trade credit balance on it, am I out of luck?
Nope. You're in luck! We keep a record of all active credit balances so you don't have to.

How much do you give in trade credit per book?
Paperbacks = 25% of the original publisher's price. Hardbacks = 1/2 of our selling price.

Do you accept credit cards?
We have a $10 minimum purchase, but yes, we accept Visa/Mastercard/American Express/Discover. Just pay by cash or check if your purchase is less than $10.

I have credit with your store. Can I tell my family and friends they can come in and use it?
No . . .  okay yes, but only if certain conditions have been met. Very critical conditions, so read carefully. You may list immediate family members names on your card in order to allow them to use your credit without your being present. For anyone else to use it, you must accompany them at time of purchase. Before granting anyone indiscriminate use of your credit for your protection we recommend that you consider transfering an amount of your credit onto a card into that individuals name to prevent them from wiping you completely out of credit. Trust us, we've seen it happen. We are absolutely firm on this policy. NO PHONE IN REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED, CREDIT HOLDER MUST BE PRESENT TO AUTHORIZE THIS ACTION. NO EXCEPTIONS! We have been caught in the crossfire of family fueds over credit. It's not pretty.

Can I use my credit on everything in your store?
No. Trade credit applies to half-price used books, hardback clearance and select paperback clearance. The good news is that we have 20,000+ books to choose from. Trade credit is not redeemable on: Discount New Books, comic books, tin signs, bookmarks, yellow ticketed markdowns, Bargain Books and clearance bundles.

Why can't I just pay for my entire purchase with my trade credit?
We are a business and require cash flow to exist. We love being in business. We love books. We love book people. Working in a bookstore is like Christmas every day. Besides, we have yet to talk the landlord, North Carolina Department of Revenue, IRS, electric, gas, phone, insurance companies or our vendors into taking books in lieu of hard cold cash. Imagine that.

I have just inheirited tons of books, you'll take all of them off my hands right?
We take only what we think we can sell. In addition, we are looking for used - not abused. Books must be clean, have both covers and tight pages. In order to serve all customers well there is a 50 book limit on books accepted for trade at one time. Larger trades are by appointment.

I had credit with you ten years ago. Do you still have a record of it?
First of all, we missed you. Secondly, shame on you for abandoning your credit that way. No. If there is no activity (purchase) at least once every 3 years your credit will expire. Ours is a very liberal policy within the industry. Most stores require activity at least once a year. Use your credit at least once every 3 years to keep your account active and this won't be an issue.
